The Z550 Stereo Bluetooth Module will provide all voice prompts and route information, stereo music from both the Zumo 550’s satellite radio and MP3 player along with receiving and placing cell phone calls, ... all this along with the benefits of bike to bike communication of up to 2 miles.
The Z550 Communicator comes complete with the Z550 Stereo Bluetooth Module. All the Garmin Zumo 550 user has to do is connect the Z550 module to the bike and ride. The Z550 Stereo Bluetooth Module connects directly to the motorcycle’s 12v power so it never needs charging and is always ready for the road. The Z550 Communicator has three 900Mhz channels with a bike to bike range of up to 2 miles. The Z550 Communicator also accepts an optional Passenger Intercom (wired connection). The Z550 Communicator Bluetooth can also be connected directly, via Bluetooth, to your cell phone or MP3 player when the Garmin Zumo is not being used. The Z500 Communicator also comes complete with an audio input jack and audio patch cord in case you prefer to connect directly to a Stereo audio source.

We, like many riders, bought a Garmin Zumo 550 GPS The Zumo 550 is advertised as a Bluetooth enabled product. We bought it to make sure it worked with the Bluetooth feature we've designed into our latest generation Communicators. It didn't. Repeated attempts to contact Garmin, got nowhere. Were we doing something wrong? Was there something wrong with our Communicator's Bluetooth feature? We didn't know.
Fortunately we checked out a popular website devoted to Zumo 550 enthusiasts and found out the Zumo 550's Bluetooth didn't work with anything. Incredibly, not even the "Scala" headset that came with it!
We would have just written this off as a bad ( and expensive ) experience but for the fact that there were so many people on the "Zumo Forum" that wanted the Bluetooth to work. So, we decided to see if we could make the Zumo 550 operate properly, as a wireless Bluetooth device.
[ By the way, the Zumo 550 is a terrific G.P.S. product, and except for the Bluetooth aspect, we are very satisfied with its features and performance. ]
Our solution was to design a special Bluetooth transceiver module that plugs into both the "audio out" jack (3.5mm) and the "microphone" jack (2.5mm) on the Zumo 550's mounting cradle. This module "pairs" with our Bluetooth enabled Z550 Communicator (also other brands of headsets). Once plugged in and powered up this system lets Zumo 550 owners enjoy all the audio features they thought they were getting when they originally bought their Zumo.
As a bonus, by using a Collett Communicator, riders are also getting the best bike to bike ( 2 mile ) communication, money can buy!
